flexibility and minimalist and functional shaping which follows the classic Bauhaus style tradition.
Even the British Prime Minister appreciated the astonishing flexibility of this table lamp designed in 1930. The
Bestlite BL2 may not be infinitely adjustable in height. But this piece is also capable of bringing the light where it is needed or desired: Both arm and diffuser can be pivoted on an axis, allowing the light to be directed precisely where it is required.

Table lamps influenced in many ways
Inspired by the Bauhaus school of design, Robert Dudley Best, who had studied in Germany, conceived the
Bestlite series in the 1930s in the family-owned manufacture Best & Lloyd. During the first years, his lamps were used mainly in car repair shops and even in the hangar of the Royal Air-Force, since they provided perfect illumination through their agility. Works by
Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, whose designs Best already admired at the International Fair in Paris in 1925, were among the role models of Best. The BL
table lamps soon earned an iconic status in Great Britain, not least because two-times British Prime Minister Churchill placed it on his desk in Whitehall. After a successful career Robert Dudley Best died in 1984 as one the most famous British designers of the 20th century.
Since 2004, the
Bestlite brand belongs to the Danish Gubi Group that has taken the popular collection of lights from England into its assortment.
