Premium manufacturers throughout Europe are implementing environment programmes with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of lights and lighting systems throughout their entire lifecycle (from development, manufacture, sale and use right through to disposal). Sustainable eco design is an essential basis for this. Many manufacturers produce lights which accommodate energy-saving lamps (energy efficiency class A - C), such as efficient T16-fluorescent lamps, energy-saving lamps, innovative LEDs or atmospheric 12 V eco halogen lamps with in-built energy-saving technology.

As a result, many of these manufacturers already comply with the stringent EU regulations governing the phase-out of incandescent lamps. After the respective EU regulation was adopted in May 2009, the first of the overall six phases of the phase-out will commence on 1 September 2009. Furthermore, European products are compliant with the RoHS which restricts the use of certain hazardous substances. Many of our featured manufacturers also ensure that their products can be disposed of in an environmentally sound manner. This is indicated by means of a label on the packaging or on the product showing a crossed-out dustbin.
